C D Mingo Favorite I Rafael Pombo

With instruments as surprising as the bass trombone, tuba, bassoon and percussion, the Orchestra will sound fun, accompanied by a narrator, to interpret and give life to the wonderful fables of Rafael Pombo as Juan Matachín, The boy and the butterfly, The poor old lady, Juaco the whaler, The walking tadpole, Simón el Bobito, Mirringa Mirronga and Juan Chunguero.

“Once upon a time there was a little old woman with nothing to eat but meat, fruits, sweets, cakes, eggs, bread and fish…” and it was this fable, The poor old lady, cataloged as one of the best written in verses that Pombo had, which managed to inspire for years the composer of this concert, the Venezuelan Jaime Martínez, to whom his aunt Anita sweetly recited it over and over again during his childhood.

Maestro Jaime, who also serves as Filarmed's oboe principal, explains that during the pandemic he had the opportunity to deepen his other talents such as composing and arranging music for different formats. “I researched Rafael Pombo, without a doubt the most important poet and fabulist in Latin America. His fables are recognized in many countries around the world; “What I did for this concert was set Pombo’s texts to music.”
