Music

While Brahms and Dvorak invite us to delve into the European symphonic tradition, Ginastera transports us to the musical richness of our continent. Its Suite Stay It is not only a tribute to the Argentine gauchos, but a vibrant celebration of Latin American folklore, captured in the language of the great orchestra.

This program intertwines the musical roots of different generations and traditions. Serenade for strings (1875) by Dvořák, one of his first works, was written in a period of artistic search and consolidation. With Brahms' support, Dvořák gained international recognition, and just a year later, Brahms premiered his monumental Symphony No. 1, a work that took him more than 20 years to complete and that pays tribute to Beethoven, consolidating Brahms as his legitimate heir.

This concert also celebrates Latin American music, highlighting the Suite Stay by Ginastera, a fundamental piece of the 20th century. Inspired by the traditions of the Argentine gauchos, the suite follows a dramatic arc of “dawn-night-dawn”, evoking the vitality, effort and identity of a people, through vibrant rhythms, nostalgic melodies and energetic dances.

“The musical connections in this program are pivotal moments. Ginastera offers us an essential work for Latin American music, not only for its extraordinary language, but because it reflects a culture in its entirety. Relentless rhythms, lyricisms that evoke nostalgia and the memory of the people, and refined and lively dances that not only mark the struggle, but also the shared joy of our South American continent,” says Patiño-Osorio.
