The Urabá Children's and Youth Philharmonic Orchestra Project of the Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra (Filarmed) opens the call and invites all interested parties to participate in the selection process for the position of Low Strings Training Artist (cello and double bass)

The Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra is a professional, private orchestra with 40 years of experience, dedicated to transforming the city with music. In addition to performing seasonal concerts in theater, Filarmed performs different programming slots in unconventional settings such as churches, museums, outdoor stages, educational concert slots, chamber music, among others, covering repertoires ranging from symphonic music to genres. as diverse as Colombian music, rock and pop tributes, children's music, etc., using different formats within the orchestra's template (full orchestra, reduced orchestra, chamber ensembles). In addition, it has social and educational programs in which the participation of the orchestra's musicians is expected in events such as school concerts, rehearsals and concerts for vulnerable populations and different social programs (I am a Musician, Reconciliation Choir), among other activities that They require the search for the improvement of artistic quality and commitment to social transformation.

About the project

Since 2016, the project Urabá Children's and Youth Philharmonic Orchestra of Filarmed, has provided training opportunities to children and young people in the banana corridor of Urabá Antioquia, using music as a tool for transformation, inclusion and community development.

As we are about to celebrate 10 years of uninterrupted work, and as part of the expansion of the program, we are looking for a low string artist (cello and double bass) who wants to join this initiative and contribute to the musical and human growth of our students.

About the call

Filarmed, through its program Children's and Youth Philharmonic Orchestra of Urabá – FILU, invites artists who train in the area of low strings (cello and double bass), of legal age, to apply for this call.

Job Description

The selected artist-trainer will be responsible for teaching cello and double bass to students between 7 and 16 years old, providing instrumental training at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. The classes will be held in a collective and collaborative environment, with a pedagogical approach that strengthens both musical skills and human values. The work will be carried out in educational institutions in municipalities of Urabá Antioqueño.

Professional Profile

  • Professional musical training or demonstrable experience in instrumental teaching.
  • Professional mastery of the cello.
  • Basic knowledge of double bass technique, performance and teaching (preferable).
  • Experience in symphonic orchestral training. (Ideal)
  • Passion and commitment to music education and social impact programs.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire students.
  • Patience, empathy and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to organize, plan and work in a team.
  • Teaching experience in musical training and/or social impact programs (ideal).
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improving teaching practice.
  • Open and professional communication with the work team.
  • Availability to reside permanently in Urabá Antioqueño, where the activities will take place.
  • Punctuality, responsibility and time management skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with the team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach cello and double bass classes at the assigned locations of Filarmed's FILU program.
  • Design and plan classes that align pedagogically and philosophically with the established goals and objectives of Filarmed's FILU program.
  • Implement teaching strategies that foster student inclusion, motivation, and engagement.
  • Ensure coverage and active participation of students, promoting their permanence and progress in the program.
  • Promote teamwork and integration of students in the orchestral context.
  • Accompany the students' learning process, evaluating their progress and offering feedback.
  • Prepare periodic reports and reports on class development and student performance.
  • Participate in training sessions, concerts and activities organized by the program.
  • Ensure all spaces and classes are safe, welcoming and inclusive for all participants.
