2021 Season Closing

Juan Pablo Valencia, resident conductor of Filarmed, conducts the Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra at the end of the 2021 season, with the “Concierto buen viento” (Good Wind Concert) that presents a journey from Latin America to Europe, and in which contemporary music and music from the romantic period will be our traveling companion.

After his residency as director at Filarmed, Juan Pablo Valencia has been noappointed assistant conductor of the Extremadura Orchestra, Spain. This will be his farewell concert.

From Colombia we will enjoy the world premiere of Quadrivium, overture by Jorge Pinzón, resident composer of Filarmed and Three Creole Ballets by Guillermo Uribe Holguín —tribute on the 50th anniversary of his death—; from Mexico, we will hear the premiere in our country of Mariachitlan by Juan Pablo Contreras, a sonic tribute to the famous State of Jalisco, heart of the Mexican mariachi tradition. And the trip arrives to the Czech Republic to enjoy the Symphony No. 8 by Antonin Dvořák, a brilliant work that evokes Slavic folk music with a series of pastoral rhythms, dances and marches.
