Sonata for a Sinai premiere
Sonata Para un Sinaí is an initiative born in 2020 and that acts as an excuse to make visible and recognize a territory that is often segregated and separated from the city and its progress initiatives: the Sinaí neighborhood, of Commune 2 Santa Cruz.
This territory located on the eastern fringe of the Aburrá Medellín River has been a refuge for populations that have arrived displaced by the war, and more recently it has welcomed the Venezuelan migrant population; Their realities and the way in which they have arrived at this space turn Sinai into an occupation neighborhood that, according to current regulations, should be evicted.
In addition to this, during 2020 the neighborhood became a focus of social and media attention when it was physically locked down because it was considered a source of contagion for Covid-19. It was this tense moment that triggered an idea, in which three organizations: Filarmed, Crew Peligrosos and Nuestra Gente, would come together to make this territory, its problems and riches visible through the possibilities that each one had: music, theater and social intervention.
During 2021, these three organizations have met again to perform the “Sonata Para un Sinaí”, a project that seeks to build, in a meeting between the community and artists, a play, with original music and created all from the workshops and territorial meetings, where the people who live there will be involved in all aspects and which seeks to critically reflect the hardness and richness of this space.
This strategy aims to be an aid to tell the city about one of those territories hidden in broad daylight, to recognize their stories and find among its labyrinthine streets those men, women and children who build cities little by little.
This Saturday and Sunday we return to Sinai to present Sonata for a Sinai with theater and music.
