Resident Director Call
As part of the commitment to national talent, and the importance of being a platform for young practicing conductors, in 2018 the Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra created the figure of the resident conductor, as an opportunity for a young and talented orchestral director to work permanently with the entire orchestra, nourishing himself with valuable learning. In 2022, with the election of the new director, who will be officially announced in March, Filarmed is once again committed to having young talent en casa to work with the musicians under the mentorship of the Principal Conductor. Therefore, it invites professional musicians interested in aspiring to the position of RESIDENT DIRECTOR, to read this call carefully.
The Resident Director He will be in charge of assisting the Principal Conductor in the activities he requires, preparing and directing the orchestra when requested, attending to artistic and administrative requirements requested by the administration of the Corporation, among other functions. This position constitutes a service provision contract with monthly fees of COP$7,000,000.
Candidate profile
Colombian citizens residing anywhere in the world; professional musicians with an emphasis in conducting/orchestral conducting or master's degree in the same field, who demonstrate experience conducting professional and/or amateur ensembles and orchestras for at least 2 years. Applicants must be willing to relocate to the city to begin serving as of April 1, 2022.
Participants will be evaluated by an internal jury appointed by the Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra.
STAGES OF THE CALL
1.Registration and receipt of documents: January 21 to February 6, 2022.
2.Publication of the list of those eligible for video evaluation: February 8, 2022.
3.Publication of the list of those selected for live audition: February 25, 2022.
4.Live Auditions: March 17 and 18, 2022.
5.Publication of results: March 25, 2022.
*The name of the selected applicant will be published on March 25, 2022. The Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra reserves the right to declare the place deserted.
1.Registration and receipt of documents
Those interested in participating in this call must fill out the registration form published in the next link, where they must copy the link with the following documentation:
- Citizenship card.
- Certificates of academic training.
- Certificates of experience in conducting professional and amateur ensembles and/or orchestras for at least 2 years.
- Link to a video of you conducting 2 contrasting movements of a classical or romantic symphony. The video must have been recorded in 2019, 2020, 2021 or 2022 and remotely recorded videos will not be accepted: the conductor must be seen interacting directly with the orchestra or pianists in the same space. If possible, the video should be unedited. The video must be properly marked with the name of the applicant.
Note 1: Remember to make sure the link to the video works, otherwise your application will not be considered. If the video is hosted on platforms such as YouTube, remember that it must be set to public or unlisted so that the jury can access it.
Note 2: Remember to answer all the questions and copy the link with all the requested documentation. Otherwise your application will not be taken into account.
2. Documentation review
The Orchestra will verify that the registrations and documents provided are correct and that they have been delivered on the established dates. Applicants who contain inconsistencies in the information reported will not be taken into account for the evaluation of the video.
3. Publication of the list of those selected for live audition
Once the documentation review process has been completed, the jury will review the videos and select 10 finalists to participate in the live auditions.
4. Live auditions on March 17 and 18
The venue for the auditions will be the headquarters of the Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra in Palermo Cultural, Carrera 42 #8-00.
The auditions will be divided into two rounds. The finalists selected from the video round will participate in the first, and at the end of the first day of auditions, the jury will summon the participants who achieve at least 85/100 points for the next day.
Participants who reach this stage must prepare the entire repertoire required in this call and the jury will be in charge of requesting the fragments that the applicant will conduct during the audition.
Note: Audition dates are not subject to change. The participant who does not attend the audition on the established date and time will be disqualified.
