Back to her roots: Tami Daniel Rueda-Blanco, new associate director of Filarmed
“Returning to Colombia is a return, not in the sense of taking a step back, but of continuing a journey through music that lasts a lifetime”
With an extensive career that includes his recent role as assistant conductor of the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra in Denmark, Tami Daniel Rueda-Blanco returns to his home country as the new associate conductor of Filarmed.
Born in Colombia and trained in Vienna, Rueda-Blanco has proven to be a talented and versatile conductor, with a special focus on modern and contemporary music. His training in Vienna has allowed him to develop an active career conducting orchestras internationally, collaborating with institutions such as the Vienna Radio Orchestra and the Beijing Central Conservatory Orchestra, as well as the Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra, where he had already made a significant mark with his participation in 2023. His work has been praised for its technical clarity and energy on the podium, characteristics that promise to further enrich the entity's cultural offering.
Rueda-Blanco's debut as associate director of Filarmed continues the commitment to an innovative orchestra that explores and celebrates music from its roots.
“The Medellín Philharmonic is a completely versatile orchestra, committed to the different audiences of the region, as well as to a wide variety of repertoires, formats and artistic axes. That is why the biggest bet will be to channel its sound identity through the spirit of exploration, innovation and adventure.”
Among his most notable achievements, Rueda-Blanco was awarded the 10th International Jeunesses Musicales Conducting Competition in Bucharest in 2019; he was also the winner of the Conducting Academies of the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia (2017) and the Caldas Symphony Orchestra (2015). His focus is on modern and contemporary music, as well as the programming of innovative concerts. Recently, he has presented a program entitled “A musical journey in search of the vital essence of life”, which includes works by composers such as José Barros, Eliana Echeverry, Edvard Grieg and Symphony No. 4 “The Inextinguishable” by Carl Nielsen.
Filarmed is committed to innovation and inclusion in its programming, and the arrival of Rueda-Blanco as associate director marks a significant step toward creating musical experiences that resonate with the community.
